Iglu-Dorf builds a snow village each winter on the slopes above Gstaad, in the Bernese Oberland, and dismantles nothing — the melt does that work in spring. The Gstaad site is one of several the operator runs across the Alps, and it is rebuilt from scratch every season, which means the plan is never quite identical twice.

Sleeping is done inside carved snow chambers on insulated mats inside expedition-grade sleeping bags, with the temperature holding a few degrees either side of freezing regardless of the weather outside. Some chambers are left plain; others are carved by artists working directly into the walls.

Evenings run on fondue, a bar cut from ice, and an outdoor hot tub, and the village sits at altitude with the lifts immediately to hand. It is a one-night proposition for most guests, and the operator is straightforward that it is an experience rather than a conventional hotel stay.
